What is Blasphemous?

Blasphemous is a 2D action platformer in a twisted Metroidvania world. Punishing pixel-perfect combat combines with a strong narrative core, drawing strong influence from Spanish history and folklore.

You play as The Penitent One, a sole survivor of the massacre of the ‘Silent Sorrow’. Exploring the nightmarish world of Cvstodia and unlocking the hellish secrets within, only you can free it from a twisted fate and reach the origin of your torment.

Explore a non-linear world: Overcome fearsome enemies and deadly traps as you venture through a variety of different landscapes and search for redemption.

Brutal combat: Release the power of the Mea Culpa, a sword born from guilt, to slaughter your foes. Acquire devastating new combos and special moves as you purge those who stand in your path.

Executions: Unleash your wrath and relish in the gory dismemberment of your adversaries – all in beautifully rendered, pixel-perfect animations

Customise your build: Discover and equip Relics, Rosary Beads, Prayers and Sword Hearts to give you new abilities and stat boosts to help you survive. Experiment with different combinations to suit your playstyle.

Intense Boss Battles: Hordes of gigantic, twisted creates stand between you and your goal. Learn their attack patterns, strike them down and more importantly, survive.

Unlock the Mysteries of Cvstodia: The world is full of tormented souls. Some offer you aid but may ask you for something in return. Uncover their stories to gain rewards and delve into the deep lore of the land.

Can you upgrade your abilities?

Yes. Your sword, the Mea Culpa, is upgradable. You will need Tears of Atonement in order to do so, which can be attained by slaying your foes. These can then be spent at designated areas on your skill tree, imbuing the sword born from guilt itself with even more devastating abilities

Are there multiple save slots?

The game gives you 3 save slots from the start.

Is this a roguelike?

No, while you will die a lot, you will retain your items. While saving at the Prie Dieu will restore your health it will also respawn previously vanquished enemies. Your Fervour meter, which allows you to cast spells fills with successful sword strikes in combat. However, you will lose all that you’ve accumulated if you die. You will also lose guilt upon death that will diminish your Fervour capacity. By returning to the point of your death you can reclaim the lost guilt, or have it absolved at Confessor Statues. Dying repeatedly without reclaiming your guilt will successively reduce your fervour meter until you have zero.

Blasphemous is developed by The Game Kitchen, creators of the critically acclaimed The Last Door series. The game is being published by Team17 on Steam, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
